Roxana (Roxy) Nasrin

My name is Roxana Nasrin, I am 17 years old and the founder of The Big Sisters Club (TBSC). I am a senior at Watchung Hills Regional High School. I am passionate about debate and policy, and I am driven to achieve my goals. When I first entered high school, I worried about losing my middle school friends. I thought everything would change—and it did, but in a better way than I expected. After founding À La Mode, WHRHS’s first fashion magazine and club, I discovered clarity in the unknown. It gave me excitement and confidence. Through extracurriculars such as Model UN, I found my community. With The Big Sisters Club, my goal is to create connections with young girls who feel lost or uncertain. It is normal to feel anxious about the future and unsure about how to face challenges. My hope is that by working together, even one girl will feel reassured that everything will be okay.

Riya Gujral

My name is Riya Gujral, and I am 17 years old. I am a senior at Watchung Hills Regional High School. As an Indian-American student, I have always valued culture, community, and connection. When I transitioned from middle school to high school, I struggled with self-identity and confidence. The new environment felt unfamiliar, and that experience inspired my desire to support younger girls facing similar challenges. The Big Sisters Club was created to offer a safe, welcoming space where girls can feel seen, uplifted, and empowered. Through co-founding my school's Asian Culture Club, I learned how to build inclusive spaces, encourage self-expression, and lead with empathy. I hope to carry these lessons into this mentorship initiative. My goal is that, through guidance and connection, every girl can grow into the most confident version of herself.
